- It was former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary on Friday, but the die-hard supporters of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy did not want anybody to be remembered other than Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and anybody to be accepted as chief minister other than Jagan.
- The Congress party workers obstructed the birth anniversary celebration of Rajiv at Rajahmundry, where ministers Vatti Vasantha Kumar and Pithani Satyanarayana were participating. Even as Vatti was addressing the public, the supporters of Jagan raised slogans in favour of their leader and also shouted saying that ‘Johar YSR'. They demanded for Jagan to be made as the chief minister of the state. They did not even allow the minister to talk about Rajiv and questioned him for not talking about Jagan in his speech. As they were creating ruckus in the meeting, the minister tried to calm them. Later, the minister felt the need to organise the death anniversary of former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in a befitting manner on September 2 in the entire state.
- Pithani also had to face the wrath of the Jagan's supporters in the meeting, as they demanded him to participate in the Odarpu Yatra. The minister said as the issue was being deliberated among the party circles, any decision on the matter should be taken up keeping in mind the party interests. However, he advised the Congress leaders and Jagan's supporters to maintain calm.
